Pavel: About comment #28:
- AFAIK we did remove thermal polling with 10.3
- It's not the first time I stumble over the T41s. When searching, I found
out that things got worse with an EC firmware update stating "reduce fan
noise" that came out long ago.
- I also found out that (is this an ATI chipset?) "DynamicClocks on"
(or similar) Xorg.conf variable may help to generally reduce temperature.
Not sure, but this is only a radeon X driver variable.
But we should not rely on graphics driver reducing temperature and if
you need the full power of the GPU it doesn't help anyway... (maybe
something broke with graphics driver or Xorg.conf setup with 10.3, too...)
A comment should be added to the blacklist, that only machines must be
blacklisted that do not dynamically adjust trip points...
IMO the only long-term solution for this bad designed (in respect of thermal
management) machines is blacklisting them or there will pop up bugs again and
again...
