https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=440812 Summary: Installer insists on deleting existing LVM volumes and groups when doing a fresh LVM-based installation on an external disk Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta 3 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: 1kfmm4x02@sneakemail.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Other I was going to try out OpenSUSE 11.1 Beta 3 by installing to an external disk, using an LVM setup. However, the installer insists on deleting my existing LVM partitions on my main OpenSUSE system, which is on the computer's first hard disk. How to reproduce: 0) Make sure that your computer has an existing LVM-based OpenSUSE installation, and that you have another disk on which to install a fresh LVM-based system. 1) In the "Suggested Partitioning" screen, choose "LVM Based" and press "Create Partition Setup...". 2) In the "Preparing Hard Disk: Step 1" screen, choose the target disk. Press Next. 3) In the "Preparing Hard Disk: Step 2" screen, press "Use entire hard disk", check "Create LVM Based Proposal" and press Next. 4) Inspect the actions listed in the "Suggested Partioning" screen. Desired outcome: The list should not propose to delete any existing logical volumes or volume groups on any disk other than the target disk. Actual outcome: The list contains the following destructive actions concerning my existing OpenSUSE system: - Delete logical volume /dev/system/home (300.00 GB) - Delete logical volume /dev/system/root (20.00 GB) - Delete logical volume /dev/system/swap (3.00 GB) - Remove volume group system I have not dared proceed any further in the installation process to see whether the installer would actually attempt to destroy my existing system. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
