https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=336669 Summary: kernel update to 2.6.22.9-0.4 causes random processes to hang in uninterruptible sleep state Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Blocker Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: vkrevs@yahoo.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Hi. I've got the same issue as reported in http://lists.opensuse.org/opensuse-factory/2007-10/msg00317.html Basically, the latest kernel update on openSUSE 10.3 for x86-64 - 2.6.22.9-0.4 - is causing random processes end up in uninterruptible sleep state (state "D" as reported by ps). Going back to the original 2.6.22.5-31-default kernel fixes the problem. I've had konqueror, kio_slave, thunderbird hang in this state. Today, when thunderbird ended up in this state, I could not even su to a different user - the system hung completely, and had to be rebooted. # Get the process Id of the hanging app stal-dev-lx1:/etc/sysconfig # ps -ef | grep thunder vadymk 19534 21803 0 09:11 ? 00:00:00 /opt/kde3/bin/kwin_killer_helper --pid 22184 --hostname localhost --windowname Phoronix - Thunderbird --applicationname thunderbird-bin --wid 58720414 --timestamp 3593958072 root 21168 21121 0 09:15 pts/17 00:00:00 grep thunder vadymk 22184 1 0 Oct24 ? 00:01:51 /usr/lib/thunderbird/thunderbird-bin # Attempt to kill it stal-dev-lx1:/etc/sysconfig # kill -9 22184 # to no effect stal-dev-lx1:/etc/sysconfig # ps aux | grep thunder vadymk 19534 0.0 0.3 90572 12732 ?
