Actually, all operations have been as root. It's the only way I can run yast2.
Well, sometimes I do an ssh or other login from a user, but not in the cases
here.
It's curious that the problem could not be reproduced. It has happened with
every clean installation of 11.1 with the kde3 option on 3 computers with
different architectures. It's there after the initial system boot, and
continues with all the changes I make (deleting and adding rpms). At times,
with the additional kde4 confusions that come in with the standard install,
there is a little console window. It was annoying and disappeared somewhere
along the line. But the 'broken pipe' has always been there, as I recall. I
wish I could point to the package or specific situation that would make it go
away. I had hoped the logs would provide the right clue.
