I also tried that kernel and it didn't help. Passing acpi_backlight=vendor to
grub did seem to help although I also was able to use the Fn keys to make my
screen 100% bright before booting the system so I'm not sure if
acpi_backlight=vendor really did the trick. The main problem I had with
everything I've been trying so far is that often I would be able to control the
screen brightness with the Fn keys but
/sys/class/backlight/thinkpad_screen/brightness and the gnome osd for the
screen brightness would disagree. As an example, my screen would often be at
13% brightness (according to /sys/class/backlight/thinkpad_screen/brightness)
but using the Fn keys to make it brighter would show that the slider was
already at 100%. I could make it dimmer from there and also brighter but 100%
on the gnome osd slider would still only be 13% "real" brightness. Maybe
adjusting the screen brightness before the system booted just got the two
values back in sync? I'll post dump values shortly.
