Thinking about this again:
-> Pls also check for EC firmware updates.
Having a short look at this might be interesting that your's is not too old,
but don't waste time to update to the very latest...
More interesting is how different affected BIOSes could be detected and then
start a blacklist like in drivers/acpi/processor_idle.c where C-states are
blacklisted:
static struct dmi_system_id __cpuinitdata processor_power_dmi_table[] = {
{ set_max_cstate, "IBM ThinkPad R40e", {
DMI_MATCH(DMI_BIOS_VENDOR,"IBM"),
DMI_MATCH(DMI_BIOS_VERSION,"1SET70WW")}, (void *)1},
{ set_max_cstate, "IBM ThinkPad R40e", {
DMI_MATCH(DMI_BIOS_VENDOR,"IBM"),
DMI_MATCH(DMI_BIOS_VERSION,"1SET60WW")}, (void *)1},
....
}
So you might look for a string like 1SET70WW, 1SET60WW (this should be the
different BIOS versions for affected systems).
Maybe this can be enhanced a bit so that we don't need a single entry for each
version.
The advantage would be that everything should be fine for the ordinary user
without the need of modifing any internal configuration.
And it should get accepted upstream...
