--- Comment #8 from Stefan Dirsch ---
Ok. Then I no longer think this is a regression in the driver itself. Looks
more like a packaging issue to me. Indeed x11-video-nvidiaG04 runs mkinitrd,
but I don't think this is the culprit. More likely this is a duplicate of
bnc#983934, comment #10 (complicated stuff; X wrapper script is involved here,
which removes the old nvidia kernel modules, so you can run an nvidia driver
update on top of X; so after Xserver restart the new driver comes active)
I suggest to try again within a clean environment, i.e.
zypper rm \
nvidia-gfxG04-kmp-default nvidia-computeG04 nvidia-glG04 x11-video-nvidiaG04
reboot
zypper inr (in order to install the nvidia packages again)
reboot -> results?
zypper in --force \
nvidia-gfxG04-kmp-default nvidia-computeG04 nvidia-glG04 x11-video-nvidiaG04
restart X/desktop -> results?
reboot --> results?
