https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=363879 Summary: ndiswrapper cannot be compiled Product: openSUSE 11.0 Version: Alpha 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.0 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Network AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: n1ho@comcast.net QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Other Attempting to use Dell Wireless 1310 mini PCI (Rev. 01), which uses the Broadcom 4311 chipset, on an HP dv9000z laptop. Default installation boots OK, but the wireless adapter would not start because its firmware couldn't be loaded using the bcm43xx module since the firmware file was missing. (It's missing because of legal restrictions, etc.). Installation of openSUSE 11.0 Alpha 2 was onto a partition of an external USB drive. Attempted to install the ndiswrapper rpms from the 11.0Alpha2 DVD, but YaST2 refused to install ndiswrapper-kmp-default-1.51_2.6.24_6-12.x86_64.rpm because of an incompatibility with the installed/running kernel. The packaging seems to be an overkill - do the kernel modules REALLY need to be in a separate RPM? How many different variants of the x86_64 kernel module will there be, and WHY? Why not just simply put all the relevant x86_64 binaries and documentation, etc. into one RPM? Compilation of the module from the ndiswrapper-1.52 sources on Sourceforge also failed. Consequently, I cannot use wireless on my laptop. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
