When running in kde4, I notice that gconfd-2 runs as follows:
/usr/lib/GConf/2/gconfd-2 12
all gtk settings are working great, firefox is properly themed, etc..
Then, switching to gnome, get an immediate error:
------
There was an error starting the GNOME Settings Daemon.
Some things, such as themes, sounds, or background settings may not work
correctly.
The last error message was:
Message did not receive a reply (timeout by message bus)
GNOME will still try to restart the Settings Daemon next time you log in
------
I find gconfd-2 running as follows:
/usr/lib/GConf/2/gconfd-2 11
Stopping the process 'gconftool-2 --shutdown' properly closes the process.
Attempting to start with
/usr/lib/GConf/2/gconfd-2 12
makes no difference, as does starting with no number:
/usr/lib/GConf/2/gconfd-2
Same thing, The normal theme appears for 2-3 seconds, then the settings daemon
error appears and it all goes back to crud.
I'm also attaching the most recent xsession-errors in case that help.
