Doesn't the command timing out, suggests that something goes wrong in the
kernel? Isn't this an issue, that only shows up in the slave-only configuration
(#332316)?
I expect the kernel doing something different in such configuration, or the
reset or something else is still in progress, and makes the command fail in an
unexpected way?
HAL does not know about master slave setting, it's just using the device node
which seems not to respond in the way HAL expects? Looks like the second try,
or just some time later, the hardware behaves as expected.
If HAL must handle commands timing out/failing, and needs to retry, it would be
something to add to HAL, sure. But it works for almost all setups without such
a logic today. And that would still not explain the mentioned "mount -r
/dev/sr0 /mnt does not work", which seems independent from HAL.
