I just ran into this bug at the end of YaST2 "Online Update". The following is
my summary:
This is a relatively new installation of OpenSuSE 11.1 Final, x86_64 with no
modifications. The installation was via the NET installer ISO. The computer
is a Compaq Presario V2570CA. The system is a dual-boot installation with
32-bit Vista.
This set of sessions involved 2 accounts. One was a general usage account, I
will call "GenAcct" and the other was the "root" account.
I started on "GenAcct" and was doing some typical file moving when the Updater
alert came up on the panel. There were 2 updates available "cifs-mount" and
"vinagre". I logged out and re-logged in as "root" to do the update. I ran
YaST2 "Online Update". At the end of the updates, the following error
appeared:
"Error
cat: write error: Broken pipe"
NOTE: I believe it came up at the same time that "Online Update's" window was
closing. If not, it was very late in the final clean-up processes.
Unfortunately, I decided to shutdown immediately. Then I remembered that you
would probably want the Yast Logs. So I re-started the computer and logged in
on "GenAcct" and immediately saved the Yast2 logs. Since I did not login as
"root" I expected the .xsession-errors" log from the crash would be intact. I
am including a copy of it as well. I looked at the .xession-errors log and I
do not think they will help.
