https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=440973 Summary: sax2: Don't specify resolution in xorg.conf if monitor cannot be detected Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Beta4 Platform: Other OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Enhancement Priority: P5 - None Component: SaX2 AssignedTo: sndirsch@novell.com ReportedBy: sndirsch@novell.com QAContact: sax2-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com CC: mhopf@novell.com, ms@novell.com, lverhaegen@novell.com Found By: --- Since we switched to automatic configuration by default with openSUSE 11.0 quite a number of users are complaining about the system using the wrong resolution of the monitor. They no longer notice that YaST/SaX2 could not detect the monitor resolution. In the past they could easily adjust this setting during installation. The same issue we see with the LiveCD, which also uses the automatic configuration of SaX ('sax2 -a -r'). Apparently users are no longer capable or willing to run the YaST X11 module to adjust the resolution. Probably because different distributions no longer write xorg.conf at all (relying on the driver capabilities to detect the monitor correctly) and therefore don't run into this issue. Users expect the same behaviour from openSUSE. The solution would be SaX2 no longer writing the resolution at all if monitor cannot be detected instead of falling back to used kernel framebuffer resolution. One needs to make sure that such configurations can be read in by SaX2 again. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
