I am afraid we cannot help you in this case.
We do not have your printer model so that we cannot reproduce it
and currently I don't know about any other such kind of bug
so that it is likely a model/driver specific issue.
Our CUPS 1.4.4 is in compliance with upstream CUPS, see
http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Printing
"Compliance with Upstream CUPS"
so that - if the issue is actually caused by CUPS - it would
be best to report the issue directly at upstream CUPS
http://www.cups.org/
But I think the root cause is perhaps the driver from Brother
which might depend in an unexpected way on a particular CUPS version.
Therefore I suggest that you report first of all the issue
at Brother so that they could check whether the root cause is
their driver or CUPS or perhaps another software (e.g. Ghostscript
or whatever other software is used by Brother's driver).
