Sorry, this is not at all constructive. Yes, I can understand *you* can't
reproduce it, but, given the level of detail we, who have the problem, provide,
we should agree the problem exists. We even managed to pinpoint the origin: the
ruxmms patch to taglib.
I repeat:
- problem appeared in OpenSUSE 12.2
- using taglib rpms from OpenSUSE 12.1 makes it dissappear
- recompiling the OpenSUSE 12.2 rpms without the ruxmms patch makes it
dissappear
- the problem clearly manifests itself as a failure to decode (error message in
the console: "TagLib: String::prepare() - Unicode conversion error.") and then
garbage is sent to the requesting application
I add:
- given that there are many able to reproduce the problem and given that all
those that can't reproduce it seem to use Russian language, there might be a
particular whole-system configuration (most probably related to encoding) that
the Russian-language testers use that hides the problem and allows the ruxmms
patch to work correctly for them.
- I understand that ruxmms patch is needed by Russian-language users, but this
patch *has* to be fixed so that it doesn't degrade the functionality of many
applications for the other users.
I suggest (to commenters #14 and #16):
- try to configure your operating system to UTF-8 encoding temporarily and redo
the test
Thanks.
