You got me wrong again.
My comments #32/#37 are to _ensure_ this is a grub bug (which I doubt).
If you could reproduce this problem in such a scenario, a buggy BIOS would
definitely be ruled out.
But things aren't black and white. between C/H/S only and full LBA48 support
there's various degrees, and many possible BIOS bugs.
Depending on the BIOS, we can boot from as high as 2TB upper limit.
PMs: depending on the service level agreement and age of the hardware, we
should be prepared for a bootable area of less than 2TB.
Thomas: putting the boot area _first_ is always a good idea, and _always_
better than behind a few G's of swap. As I mentioned, Unixen are doing this for
ages, so the risk is as low as can be.
