https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679446 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=679446#c0 Summary: partition manager: encryption layer is hidden Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: YaST2 AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- I don't know for what reason, but PM instead of showing and using distinct layers: * physical partition * encryption present those two layers as one: * encrypted physical partition This looks superficially as advantage, but if you want to build something on top of it, you get in effect such binding (example) * /dev/sda1 and now -- decide: is this binding is for physical partition (it is technically possible) or it is encryption layer (/dev/dm-0)? PM should show layers explicitly, so there would be no ambiguity. If I add LVM on top of something I would like to be 100% sure, what layer I am binding to -- physical layer or encryption layer. You can look even on graph of layers in PM which is technically incorrect (consider case: partition -> encryption -> LVM). In graph encryption layer is completely omitted. So, in other words, for such mapping: a) partition -> LVM b) partition -> encryption -> LVM graph is identical (bug). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
