They have some kind of traffic shaping management, and they send out the following network informations: IP address: just one from network 172.16/12 DNS: 172.30.3.254 Default Gateway: 172.30.3.254 Netmask: 255.255.255.255 I tried to setup a DHCP server, that provides such network information, and then I tried to get an IP address via the network manager, and via the traditional method, using ifup. when doing this via the network manager, then the dhclient is used. The dhclient takes the IP address and updates the resolv.con, but refuses to set a route. There is only a route to 127.0.0.1. when using the dhcpcd on the command line then the notebook takes the IP address, and updates resolv.conf and sets the route like this: Kernel IP routing table Destination Gateway Genmask Flags MSS Window irtt Iface 172.30.3.254 0.0.0.0 255.255.255.255 UH 0 0 0 eth1 127.0.0.1 0.0.0.0 255.0.0.0 U 0 0 0 lo 0.0.0.0 172.30.3.254 0.0.0.0 UG 0 0 0 eth1 when using dhcpcd, then networking is possible. But as the ordinary user has no administration account, he is unable to use wireless networks on at least this Airport.
