IMHO you have executed in the first case
man -H firefox man
which fails because man has tried to execute /usr/bin/lynx.
By using
man -Hfirefox man
or
man --html=firefox man
the problem in the first case of the attachment disappears.
The reason is that there are two colons used after the
Option `H' in the optstring argumwent of getopt_long().
Accordingly this is due (man getopt_long(3)):
Two colons mean an option takes an optional arg; if there is text
in the current argv-element, it is returned in optarg, otherwise
optarg is set to zero. This is a GNU extension. ...
To see this do simply
bash> man -H firefox
No source manual entry for firefox
and
bash> man -Hfirefox
What manual page do you want?
the question is: can you reproduce your problem with firefox 2.0.0.5
and the correct option usage e.g. -Hfirefox or --html=firefox?
