reply from the reporter:
I think (but I'm not sure), the problem with the german special chars 'äöüÄÖÜß' is: o typo3 uses iso 8859-1
really ?
o SuSE10.2 with imagemagick, php-gd, ... ect. uses utf8 (?)
PHP uses by default single byte encoding and it is (well, it was) Unicode ignorant. but genrally, PHP uses the output encoding that the webserver, and the user decides.
o when I use '[GFX][TTFLocaleConv] = UTF-8' (in 'Installation' -> 'All Configuration') typo3 does not generate a new frontend page. - I think, because php5 does not have recode (I cant' find it - php5-recode or something in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini like 'recode')
The recode extension cannot really be used here, you must use iconv. read the three "Warning" boxes in the PHP documentation to know why http://php.net/recode Also afaics, it is licensed under the GPL thus incompaible with the PHP license, but the technical reasons are enough to not include it ;-)
the other problem with png and gif, I have no idea: o png-images work o gif images are without text
ok then is gif specific.. lets see I will probably have time this week to look into this then , to make our life easier. 1. **do not email information privately*** if you do so, other mantainerns will not have access to the information !! 2. forget Im a developer, assume I m dumb as a wood, tell me, step by step instructions like: "I got source from XXX url" " I followed the XXX installation instructions (url)" "Im running (the output of rpm -qa | grep php5)" " MY apache version is ( the output of rpm -qa | grep apache2)" "my webserver is configured with with charset XXX" (or any other relevant change to your configuration" "I should obtain result A and I get result Z" remember I DO NOT speak german (I have absolutely no clue) so it is very important you tell me what is the real expected beahviuor. Otherwise is very unlikely I 'll spend my time guessing the problem. even more looking at the codebase size of typo3.. finding the problem will take way too much time. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
