--- Comment #3 from Steinar Løklingholm
Hello Steinar and thanks for your report.
Hi Nick, I'll give this a go and hopefully be able to provide the information you want. I removed the nohwcrypt option and will supply the results and answer your questions the best I can.
a) What dmesg returns when ath5k loads (we need to know the mac revision numbers etc) ?
dmesg | grep ath5k [ 25.040619] ath5k 0000:09:04.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 22 (level, low) -> IRQ 22 [ 25.040703] ath5k 0000:09:04.0: registered as 'phy0' [ 25.654009] ath5k phy0: Atheros AR2413 chip found (MAC: 0x78, PHY: 0x45)
b) Did you had any problems with ath5k with the same card in the past or is this a new symptom ?
This is actually the first time I've had this card running under openSUSE. Tried it with 11.4, and now with 12.1. Before that this old laptop was running Win XP. As far as I'm aware the ath5k was loaded under both 11.4 and 12.1. So it's mostly been used with wired connection.
c) Can you please check the full lspci -v output for your card, I'm interested on the subsystem id, is it Askey ?
09:04.0 Ethernet controller: Atheros Communications Inc. AR2413 802.11bg NIC (rev 01) Subsystem: Askey Computer Corp. Device 7094 Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 168, IRQ 22 Memory at c0110000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=64K] Capabilities: [44] Power Management version 2 Kernel driver in use: ath5k
d) What encryption type are you using ?
WPA2 Personal
e) Can you please do the following test and report your packet loss ?:
ping -M do -s 596 www.google.com
--- www.l.google.com ping statistics --- 57 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 55999ms
ping -M do -s 597 www.google.com
