OK, some news here after reproducing the issue with one of my r8169 cards
(exactely the behavior from Comment #28) the card work on 100 Mbit switches
with half duplex not on GBit switches, it start working on the managed Gbit
switch if I forced the port manually to 100 Mbit half duplex.
I only saw this with one card, a other card (same brand, same chips) did not
show it. Also the 8168 driver from Realtek did show it.
So I did some more investigation on hardware itself and found that here was a
short circuit between two contacts in the RJ45 socket of the card, I removed
the socket and soldered a new one, but the defect card still show this
behavior, seems it was really damaged now.
So I now think this issue is more related to faulty hardware as to a driver
issue.
Lower speed with Realtek cards is quiet common, because it is really cheap
hardware with cheap components, you cannot compare a Ferrari with a VW.
The ethtool autoneg setting seems to be still a driver bug also in 11.1.
