another workaround is to use
service nfsserver status
or
systemctl is-active nfsserver
bug 908023 also had the same underlying issue.
for some reason, /etc/rc.status first does the correct
SYSTEMD_NO_WRAP=1 "$0" "$1"
but then ignores the result and goes on to exec the incorrect
/usr/bin/systemctl $_sd_opts $1 "${_rc_base}.service
