http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=555603 Summary: [Mesa/Intel G43/45 chipset] Direct Rendering Disabled upon install Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.2 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.2 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: X.Org AssignedTo: bnc-team-xorg-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: trust.no.1.xf@gmail.com QAContact: xorg-maintainer-bugs@forge.provo.novell.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- --- Comment #0 from j h <trust.no.1.xf@gmail.com> 2009-11-15 06:24:38 UTC --- Created an attachment (id=327574) xorg log User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux; en-US) AppleWebKit/527+ (KHTML, like Gecko, Safari/419.3) rekonq Direct Rendering is disabled with Intel G43/45 chipset upon install. The seemingly relevant clue is in the xorg log: (EE) intel(0): [drm] Failed to detect GEM. Kernel 2.6.28 required. (EE) intel(0): Failed to become DRM master. Reproducible: Always Actual Results: Things crawl because of hardware acceleration/direct rendering not being enabled. Expected Results: Direct Rendering to be enabled and thus desktop effects (KDE) enabled. I discussed this on both the OpenSUSE & intel-gfx IRC channels. In the intel-gfx channel the cause of the issue could not be determined. I was however told that the issue is most likely due to Mesa and to file a bug here against Mesa. All of the relevant packages are unmodified from the 11.2 install, but for reference they are: kernel-desktop-2.6.31.5-0.1.1.x86_64 Mesa-7.6-3.1.x86_64 xorg-x11-7.4-35.3.x86_64 xorg-x11-server-7.4-61.63.1.x86_64 intel driver 2.9.1 I think the relevant error in the Xorg.0.log is this one: (EE) intel(0): [drm] Failed to detect GEM. Kernel 2.6.28 required. (EE) intel(0): Failed to become DRM master. This doesn't seem to make sense because as listed above, 11.2 ships with 2.6.31+ so GEM should not be an issue. Also, I don't know if this is relevant but 11.2 did correctly detect my monitor (connected via DVI) and all settings regarding it are correct. Apparently 11.2 no longer utilizes the xorg.conf file. Before installing 11.2, I backed up my xorg.conf file. Upon encountering this problem with 11.2 I copied my working xorg.conf from 11.1 to /etc/X11/ to see if that would help, but it was apparently ignored as it did not make a difference. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
