Could this be the same issue as in
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-intel/+bug/4725...
In the process of research this I came across that "bug". It was filed against an older version of the Intel driver iirc and was fixed a while back. However, I did check my BIOS settings and PAVP was already disabled. So in other words, no, this is not the same issue. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Hmm. Only slightly older driver (2.9.0 instead of 2.9.1), similar for xserver (1.6.4 instead of 1.6.5). The same kernel version, both have 2.6.31. So this would have been a reasonable explanation. I no longer have one - for now. :-( -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Oh, btw, if it helps, this is the motherboard: http://www.asrock.com/mb/overview.asp?Model=G43Twins-FullHd
Thanks. I have an Intel developer board. Nothing official ... -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Unfortunately I only have these G4x machines:
8086:2e02 (IGD_E) 8086:2e12 (Q45)
So it's unlikely that I can reproduce that issue. :-(
So what does this mean? This problem will never get fixed?!?! The motherboard can be bought pretty cheap on Newegg.com: http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&DEPA=0&Order=BESTMATCH&Description=asrock+g43&x=0&y=0 -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Nothing. It's just an assumption, which needs to be verified first.

So you would like to send us one to Germany? ;-) -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I'm severly disappointed with OpenSUSE 11.2. I tested 11.2 a while back and it would crash the xserver because they weren't packaing the proper intel driver version with the proper kernel version and/or the proper xserver version
Why do you think so?
What about the first suggestion here?: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Common_F12_bugs#Miscellaneous_problms_with_In...
We don't use KMS by default and EXA is the default for acceleration anyway. I believe XAA is no longer possible at all. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

I thought UXA was the new default that is recommend to be used? (At least I read that on the gentoo wiki, but maybe that information was outdated). I will attach some more info I found that may help via dmesg. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Created an attachment (id=327746) [details] dmesg output
It appears that too much memory is being stolen so GEM gets disabled.
Interesting. Could you discuss this upstream on the intel-gfx IRC channel? (In reply to comment #18)
I noticed this problem sounds similar to this: https://launchpad.net/bugs/54858
This is from 2006. I don't believe this is related.
Maybe this comment in particular is relevant?: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-i810/+bug/54858...
If this would be the problem, every intel driver user would see it, which isn't the case here. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

Check this
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21574
A possible workaround:
https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21574#c24
Set the shared memory size to 128MB in BIOS. Does this fix the issue?
That did the trick! It worked. I can confirm that direct rendering/hardware acceleration is enabled. My motherboard has AMIBIOS 1.00 (1.70 is apparently the latest version). The setting was set to Auto so I changed it to 128MB and it worked. It is still detected as 256MB according to dmesg. Will changing this setting to 128MB from Auto (256MB) affect my performance? I hope not, but if it will, I hope a real solution to this can be worked on so those of us effected aren't forced with a trade off of reasonable functioning for sacrificed performance. Thank you so much Stefan for your help & patience. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
