If not even numlock works, then problem is unlikely to be graphics card. BOoting with init=/bin/bash and suspending with echo mem > /sys/power/state would be useful test.
If I use init=/bin/bash (or if I use runmode 3 w/ framebuffer vga=...) and I suspend to RAM, then waking up works - except that the screen remains dark.
