https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=214247 ------- Comment #16 from j.keet@wandromeda.demon.nl 2006-11-04 03:38 MST ------- This also is an interesting forum concerning our problem: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=279626&page=4 Look at page 4 post #39 from 'Pregoeater': --- right now im happy using the 32bit on my 64 works for now....i will wait for better 64 bit distro before i change. OH and its been 24 hours using my usb hub on my monitor and no mouse lock up.....i called dell and one the the techs told me it was a linux problem. he did seem to know what he was talking about. he told me that it has to do with the way linux handles power when the processor uses more power linux does not always supply enough to the usb and it stops the usb ports it and when it puts power back to the usb most devices do not have a problem with it but for some reason mice do. he said the best way to fix that is use a POWERED usb hub that you plug into the wall for power. that way it has enough power at all times. i have not tried this because mine works but atleast dell knows about it. --- The power issue is something I thought of two weeks ago and tested it with a SafeWay powered hub. In my case it still didn't work, but it seemed to become a bit better. But this safeway hub is a little 'strange'. When connected to power it doesn't power-up. When connected to root-hub (host) it powers-up with a clicking relay, but it -needs- the power adapter so it really seems to use external power. Could it be that power-handling to the mouse (and keyboard, I tested both on the hub, but also separate) isn't very good in this hub, although it seems to work correct? If Dell told the truth, can the Linux kernel be patched, so that power handling never failes to the onboard usb-interface, just like WinXP does? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
