Hi Thomas,
thanks for responding to this bug report. This has been an ongoing and general
problem with Toshiba cooling, you are correct in writing this. I have spent
quite a lot of time trying to research for a solution without success.
I believe the kernel driver for Toshiba laptops you are referring to is
contained in the package Toshutils. I have tried this package on several
versions of Suse and other Linux distros that I have installed on this laptop
to try and resolve the cooling problem. It doesn't work.
I was last able to use this toshiba laptop reliably and consistently with
opensuse 11.1, and had to pass up 11.2 and 11.3 because I couldn't get the fan
to work with them. I found that I could get the fan to work with 11.4 and
other than the distro standard kernels. Here is a related bug that I opened
that was the most fruitful of any bug report that I have filed, to bring you up
to speed.

In the end, it was determined that the bug should be passed on to
LinuxKernel.org, which I did. That was the last I ever heard of it. I know
that you guys are busy, and that this is a specific problem that only effects
Toshiba. I don't fault you for this, but I can't fix it as I don't have this
kind of knowledge. I understand the issues involved, but would still like to
see it fixed.
As regards buying an HP laptop with Suse installed, my previous two laptops
were HP's. I haven't found them to be very well designed for durablility and
decided not to buy them anymore. I won't buy a Toshiba laptop again because of
the problems with linux, but that is what I own now and want to get it running
properly with linux.
