~> rpm -qlp kernel-desktop-2.6.37.6-0.7.1.x86_64.rpm|grep -i vfat /lib/modules/2.6.37.6-0.7-desktop/kernel/fs/fat/vfat.ko Correct. Although a couple more updates have passed: orakel:~ # rpm -ql kernel-desktop-2.6.37.6-0.11.1.x86_64 | grep -i vfat /lib/modules/2.6.37.6-0.11-desktop/kernel/fs/fat/vfat.ko
This seems like perhaps you got an updated kernel-desktop-base with no kernel-desktop package.
Not really: orakel:~ # rpm -qa | grep kernel kernel-desktop-devel-2.6.37.6-0.11.1.x86_64 kernel-devel-2.6.37.6-0.11.1.noarch kernel-desktop-2.6.37.6-0.11.1.x86_64
Can you confirm? There is definitely no kernel issue with vfat.ko being removed.
Works now. Cannot reproduce on the system that produced the problems reported here since I upgraded that to 12.1. But another system running 11.4 is not encountering the problem. After adding a vfat formatted usb drive: orakel:~ # dmesg | tail ...
