https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=827531 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=827531#c0 Summary: Grub2 version 2.00 Sorts kernel version 3.10-rc7 as a higher release than kernel 3.10 Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.3 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 12.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@suse.com ReportedBy: jmcdaniel3@austin.rr.com QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- Created an attachment (id=546268) --> (http://bugzilla.novell.com/attachment.cgi?id=546268) A grub.cfg file showing 3.10-rc7 as being above just kernel 3.10 User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:21.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/21.0 If you install any kernel release candidate such as 3.10-rc7 and then install the final version of the same kernel such as 3.10, the 3.10-rc7 remains as the top kernel version in grub 2 menu. You can find out how to compile your own kernel here: https://forums.opensuse.org/blogs/jdmcdaniel3/opensuse-installing-new-linux-... For help with Grub2 look here: http://forums.opensuse.org/blogs/jdmcdaniel3/gnu-grub2-command-listing-helpe... Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Compile and install kernel 3.10-rc7: https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.x/testing/linux-3.10-rc7.tar.xz 2. Compile and Install kernel 3.10 final: https://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v3.x/linux-3.10.tar.xz 3. Restart openSUSE 12.3 using grub 2 and select the default entry and find that kernel 3.10-rc7 is selected over 3.10 and 3.10-rc7 is shown in the Advanced menu at the top of the list. Actual Results: After you install kernel 3.10-rc7 and 3.10 final then restart openSUSE 12.3 and select the default entry in grub 2 and find that kernel 3.10-rc7 is selected over 3.10 and is shown in the Advanced menu at the top of the list. Expected Results: On Restart, Kernels including the name portion rc, should sort after kernels with the same number that do not include rc in their name. This grub2 kernel version sort "problem" with rc's has existed for a while, but I decided to post a bug report for it as I saw no others on this subject. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
