Marcus, I agree that would have done the best. However, it will take time
before the IETF publishes a revised RFC 3484, and after that it will take time
before glibc makes a new release, and after that it will take time before a new
openSUSE release containing that glibc release is made, and after that it will
take time before your users have upgraded to the new release.
All in all, this is time you don't have. More and more IPv6-enabled content
will start appearing on the Internet in the near future, and unless the change
is already present on your users' computers, they might have trouble accessing
this content.
You will not be alone in having made this change, though. Microsoft, FreeBSD,
Fedora, Ubuntu, Gentoo, Mandriva, are all ahead of you. I have not yet
received any response from Debian or Apple - I'm optimistic that Debian, at
least, will find the change acceptable.
