https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=343242 Summary: Unable to correctly install HPDeskJet 6540 USB Printer Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Final Platform: i686 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Printing AssignedTo: jsmeix@novell.com ReportedBy: mike_wells@cox.net QAContact: jsmeix@novell.com Found By: --- Installing a HP printer has been a nightmare since I came to SUSE at 9.1. I have fought this same printer installation thru 9.1, 9.3, 10.1, 10.2 and NOW 10.3 with this version being the worst. I need to install my printer and be able to correctly configure it with YaST, CUPS, HPLIP, HPIJS, KDE and the HP Toolbox, ALL at the same time. Given the age of the printer, and the number of SUSE versions I should not even have to submit a bug of this type! FYI, I installed PCLinuxOS 2007 (for evaluation), it found my printer and did a PERFECT install in just under 30 seconds. No further configuration was required on my part. Now, if that young of a Linux distro can do it why has this been a major problem with SUSE for the 3.5 years that I know of? Please, please take this seriously. I am not asking for the Hardware Wizard to jump up, find my printer and install it (which btw, it can not do correctly), I am more than willing to do a manual install but there has to be some kind of guidelines that we can follow. I can not even get into CUPS to delete some bogus printer that it somehow found during the original 10.3 install process (my printer was not even turned on). This has just got to end. I have spent I do not know how many hours googling, reading and experimenting. I am worn out and I need to get my printer configured with ALL of the components that I mentioned above. Thank you in advance for doing whatever you need to do so that I can install, configure and use my printer! -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
