https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=724217 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=724217#c0 Summary: WiFi connection silently dropped when connection saturated Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.4 Version: Final Platform: x86 OS/Version: openSUSE 11.4 Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: kernel-maintainers@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: richard@reallyrathergood.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1 A wireless connection successfully established with knetworkmanager works completely normally for web browsing and other activities like transferring small files. Even watching videos on youtube and the like works well. However, if one attempts to copy a large file (such as a DVD ISO image) from a local server with Samba, or FTP, or rsync the transfer will proceed so-far and then the network connection is silently lost. Any network activity will hang. If one re-establishes the network connection with knetworkmanager and aborts (for example) the rsync and re-start it, things can carry on (provided --partial is used with rsync). This problem seems to occur regardless of network card manufacturer, I have the same problem with four different systems, all running OpenSuse 11.4. The network connection is established using WPA and AES with a passphrase. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Establish wireless network connection using knetworkmanager 2.Attempt to download a large file using, say, rsync from a local server - eventually the network connection is lost; but silently - knetworkmanager thinks the connection is still live and intact. Actual Results: A partially copied file on the requested host. Several reconnects might be necessary for a large file. Expected Results: File should have copied to completion. This can be worked around using the --partial option on rsync and re-starting the network connection as many times as necessary. This causes a big problem if one is trying to move large amounts of data unattended. I have been unable to use samba on wireless connections on my LAN because of this. The problem does not occur on hard-wired Ethernet connections. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
