IMHO the wrong ownership should be correct within devtmpfs at the
first creation. Otherwise /dev/xconsole is not usable ... even root
seems not to able to use it as /etc/X11/xdm/GiveDevices is called
by root (hopefully).
@Stefan Kost:
Please check if /etc/X11/xdm/GiveDevices is executed by root
that is that the line
id -u
before
chown ${USER}:tty /dev/xconsole
should write out `0'
The fifo device /dev/xconsole its self created in /etc/init.d/syslog
but only if it does not exit:
if ! test -e /dev/xconsole ; then
mknod -m 0600 /dev/xconsole p
chown root:tty /dev/xconsole
fi
which is definitly not the permission found in comment #0.
