iscan-free is an older version of the IScan software from Epson/Avasys
which cannot be upgraded with reasonable effort because newer versions
of the IScan software from Epson/Avasys cause incompatible regressions,
see bnc#425743
If iscan-free does not work for you, you have to use the up-to-date
IScan software from Epson/Avasys.
If iscan-free does not work for this or that model there is nothing
what we (i.e. openSUSE) can do. In particular we cannot fix the
IScan software from Epson/Avasys.
Please contact Epson/Avasys if you have issues with their software.
If iscan-free does no longer work for any model, I will drop the
package from openSUSE.
To find out whether or not iscan-free does no longer work for any model
you could provide me debug-messages for the epkowa backend in iscan-free
as described in "Trouble-Shooting (Debugging)" at
http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Configuring_Scanners
If the debug-messages show that it is a generic problem that
iscan-free can no longer work for any model, I would drop this
outdated and meanwhile useless package from openSUSE.
Also if fow any model that is listed as supported by iscan-free
the epson or epson2 backends in sane-backends would also work
there is no longer a good reason to have iscan-free so that
I could drop it from openSUSE.
