I always thought that such a version UPGRADE from 2.3.3 to 2.4.0 is not possible during a distribution lifetime (I remember such discussions for a real bug-fix upgrade of xfreerdp...), but this upgrade doesn't really fix any real bug (FWIW, I did not find any actual reports), instead it creates such an incredible amount of, "Wow, I need a new password safe" impressions.
Well on openSUSE version upgrades are possible to some extent for non system packages. This update here also was not just for the fun of it, but to fix an issue with libgcrypt found in bug 1117355. We're sorry that you experience problems with this, maybe our package maintainer was not aware of the major changes that are introduced with this update.
Please, if the version upgrade cannot be rolled back, please *re-establish* the formerly established and accepted key-bindings!
