I checked with both 10.3-Beta2 and with 10.2-GA.
10.2-GA appears quicker, but in reality it is not. On my test machine it takes
7-8 seconds from pressing the "Details..." button in the pattern selector until
you can actually do something in the package selector (Until the "solving
dependencies..." busy popup is gone).
10.3-Beta2 on the other hand takes about 2 seconds from pressing "Details..."
until you can work in the package selector.
Granted, 10.3-Beta2 makes a more sluggish impression: It seems to take longer
for the grey background to disappear (to be replaced with the package list
etc.).
Sometimes, that is. At other times it appears considerably quicker. This might
have to do with multiprocessing (X server vs. y2base; it's a hyperthreading
machine) and how the CPU load is distributed. Sometimes I don't see the
"solving dependencies..." popup at all; this is when it appears to be more
sluggish. Even then, the raw numbers speak a different language: It always
takes ~2 seconds on my test machine.
I can't find anything suspicious in the logs. Will continue to investigate.
