https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=264771 Summary: disable old style usb:/dev/lp0 URI in yast2 printer Product: openSUSE 10.2 Version: Final Platform: All OS/Version: openSUSE 10.2 Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Printing AssignedTo: mzugec@novell.com ReportedBy: jsmeix@novell.com QAContact: jsmeix@novell.com CC: wl@gnu.org See bug #264219 for the whole story. Since CUPS 1.2 (i.e. since openSUSE 10.2) the old style USB DeviceURI "usb:/dev/usb/lp*" is no longer allowed. Only the new style USB DeviceURI "usb://<make>/<model>?serial=<number>" can be used. YaST uses the new-style URI by default but YaST can be switched via [Other]->"CUPS Expert Settings" ->"CUPS USB Device Settings" to use the old-style URI by default. Please remove the "CUPS USB Device Settings" menue. According to bug #264219 it may be additionally somehow possible (perhaps via manual setup?) to set up queues with the old-style URI but I could not reproduce it. By the way: Via "lpadmin -v usb://dev/usb/lp0" it is still possible to set up a queue with the old-style URI because lpadmin does not check if the whole URI is valid (only if the URI scheme is valid) so that queues with the old stype URI could exist (or after an update from an older Suse Linux version). Therefore YaST must be prepared to show such outdated queues. I only request that YaST can no longer set up queues with the old style URI. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug, or are watching someone who is.
