https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=799296 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=799296#c0 Summary: Missing core.img after partially succeeded upgrade Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE Factory Version: 12.3 Beta 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SUSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Critical Priority: P5 - None Component: Bootloader AssignedTo: jsrain@suse.com ReportedBy: j.reitsma@hccnet.nl QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:18.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/18.0 I upgraded my x86_64 system from 12.2 to factory trough Yast. Upgrade went well up till installing gimp, then came suddenly to a halt, leaving the system dead. On reset the disk I use for this experiments was not found by the BIOS (which took a long time apparently trying to find it). After powering up the pc anew the disk was visible again, grub2 was started, gave 12.2! as default choice with no 12.3 or factory as other choices, then complained about missing (hd0,1)/grub2/core.img The entry: LOADER_TYPE="grub" in /etc/sysconfig/bootloader was not removed by grub2 See also my posting on opensuse-factory@opensuse.org 17-01-13 21:31 (Amsterdam time zone).
