More than a bug, this is a lacking feature of the software. Latest release was in 2009. I'm soon going to drop it from lxde as well. Possible replacements are volumeicon or pnmixer. Because of that, i'm going to close it as invalid. Please reopen if you don't agree explaining the reason.
