[Bug 719360] New: gmixer 1.3 misses the options tab so it is not possible to set channel and input source
https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=719360 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=719360#c0 Summary: gmixer 1.3 misses the options tab so it is not possible to set channel and input source Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Factory Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: SuSE Other Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@suse.com ReportedBy: mpapis@gmail.com QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux x86_64; rv:6.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/6.0 gmixer 1.3 misses the options tab so it is not possible to set channel and input source Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. open gmixer 2. go to edit->preferences 3. unselect all except channell/input source (those are options on my laptop), alternatively try selecting every single track - and some are just not visible. I was able to see the channel/input source using alsamixer and xfce4-mixer Actual Results: it is not possible to change channel and input source options Expected Results: it should be possible to change options (terminology from xfce4-panel) because of that I was not able to set my external microphone to work, and internal has really poor quality, I found it only because I was heaving same microphone problems earlier with KDE ... solved then with the switches - but could not set it now with gmixer (default volume control in XFCE) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

there is also one point - my volume controls (keyboard) stopped working without gmixer - so when I installed xfce4-panel-plugin-mixer I have to hover the icon and use my mouse wheel to change volume. Is it possible proper key bindings to handle volume up/down/mute keys ?
Have you tried xfce4-volumed for handling volume keys? Getting a usable mixer applet is on my todo-list, however xfce4-mixer suffers from some severe usability issues, it has no slider widget and can only be used with a mousewheel and it provides no automatic default configuration but must be manually configured before first usage. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.

xfce4-volumed worked nice, are there any other mixers I could try ? or is there anything I could do for the xfce4-mixer ?
So far I haven't really found anything that would make a decent default, adding a slider widget and volume key bindings to the xfce4 mixer applet and getting that accepted upstream seems like the most viable solution to me. Working key bindings for the volume keys could probably also be easily implemented by using the keybinder library (http://kaizer.se/wiki/keybinder/). Please contact me if you can and want to help with that, I would certainly appreciate it. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
