--- Comment #34 from Richard Ems 2010-04-09 10:39:29 UTC ---
I triggered the error again. It is pretty simple, just starting a
rsync -avAH --progress c4fat:/home/root .
After about 5 min I tried to list some dirs on the device while the rsync was
running with "ls ..." and then the error appeared.
Then pressing CTRL+C apparently killed rsync (Killed by signal ...), but
checking afterwards the running processes showed rsync still running.
Killing rsync with "kill" or "kill -9" did not work, it's still running and
shows D state, the process is still hanging and the load up to over 15.
Different services start to fail or timeout already, I will have to reboot the
server again 8( .
I then did a sg_reset:
# sg_reset -h /dev/sda
sg_reset: starting host reset
sg_reset: completed host reset
#
/var/log/messages then showed:
Apr 9 12:19:05 c3m kernel: mptscsih: ioc0: attempting host reset!
(sc=ffff88000b71bac0)
Apr 9 12:19:07 c3m kernel: scsi target8:0:0: Beginning Domain Validation
Apr 9 12:19:07 c3m kernel: scsi target8:0:0: mptspi: ioc0: mpt_config failed
Apr 9 12:19:07 c3m kernel: scsi target8:0:0: mptspi: ioc0: mpt_config failed
Apr 9 12:19:07 c3m kernel: mptscsih: ioc0: host reset: SUCCESS
(sc=ffff88000b71bac0)
But the rsync process is still there and cannot be killed.
Load over 18 ... rebooting now!
Richard
