http://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=537056 Summary: copying files from DVD: drive makes a lot of noise (regression) Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 11.1 Version: Final Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Other Status: NEW Severity: Minor Priority: P5 - None Component: Kernel AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: bluedzins@wp.pl QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: --- Situation (example): DVD with 10 files, 4.4GB total (disc is almost full). I am copying all those files to hard drive. At the end _after_ successful copying (i.e. copying is finished, no data transfer is on) drive makes terrible noise like something was cracking. Or lets put it this way -- it seems like there is 11th file and system tries to copy this file but there is a lot of errors, and that the cause of all the noise. It is not a silly complain, but this kind of noise (you can't tell the difference from real error) is unnerving, because when copying such amount of data I usually work, so every time copying is done, I got nervous that copying failed. I am afraid what can be the effect on drive life and mechanics, so I am setting this report as a bug. The second reason is, this is a clear regression. I tested opensuse 10.3 and all the noise was was "woosh" from the spinning disc, nothing else. I think it is related to this issue: https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=467174 but of course I am judging basing on superficial facts -- the kind of noise and the fact of reading data near the end of the disc. -- Configure bugmail: http://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
