The question is why we do not get more details than
"Y2ProgramComponent.cc(receiveFromExternal):358 External
program returned invalid data." in the log.
It turns out that it happens only when the program does not produce any output
on stdout but does output on stderr.
New text: "External program %s returned invalid data. (No other error means no
data at all)"
Fixed in SVN for yast2-core-2.17.6.
Now it dawns on me, its stderr should go to the log. We do that for
target.bash already. Next time.
