Perhaps from /etc/cups/lpoptions?
No - then also root would see the old default.
Perhaps the user has an old ~/.lpoptions
file from an older Suse Linux installation?
Currently I have no good idea.
As user grep in your home directory all files
for the old default e.g. using
---------------------------------------------------------
cd
find . | xargs grep 'old default' 2>/dev/null
---------------------------------------------------------
to find a file where the old default might be stored.
Additionally run as user
---------------------------------------------------------
set | grep 'old default'
---------------------------------------------------------
to see if there is an environment variable
which still contains the old default.
