The double "X-Start-Before" line was just a try if the +autofs syntax is
perhaps wrong or not sufficient. I also tested with only
"# X-Start-Before: +autofs"
(still have a second system with exactly this setup) but this does not change
anything. The system hangs upon shutdown most of the time I try to shutdown.
The difference to the successful test you performed using a nfs entry in fstab
and our setup is perhaps the higher complexity of our solution with more
services involved. Our NFS mounts are done only via automounter, there are no
NFS entries in fstab. autofs again needs ypbind to find its automount maps and
NIS in turn needs the network of course. Perhaps these services are not
started/stopped in the correct sequence causing the machine to hang.
In suse12.1 using systemd (and before down to suse9.x) this setup used to work
flawlessly.
