That's a good point. You can't detect mount points automatically without the
passwords.
How about this, though: What about asking for the password and, if it works,
save it in a memory cache. When the next encrypted device is encountered, try
the passwords in the cache before prompting for one. Since the password is in
the cache, you'd already have it when you needed it. If all the passwords fail,
prompt the user and add that password to the cache. I wonder how many people
actually use different passwords for different devices. I'd suggest that users
with different passwords for every volume are used to a certain amount of
administrative overhead already.
The ask-and-cache approach would be pretty nice during the boot process as
well.
