https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=303921 Summary: grub misconfigured by installation Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Beta 2 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: Linux Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: jbohac@novell.com QAContact: jsrain@novell.com Found By: Development I just installed openSUSE 10.3 beta2. I did a fresh install, but did custom (expert) partition setup, because I wanted to keep my data partition (mounted to /localhome). That's why I disabled LVM and set up the partitioning myself. When the installation got to GRUB, it tried to run "setup --stage2=/boot/grub/stage2 (hd0) (/dev/sda1,0)" from the grub shell. This failed with an error saying that GRUB failed to parse a number. Obviously the "/dev/sda1" should have been "hd0" instead. The same problem was in the generated /boot/grub/device.map and /boot/grub/menu.lst -- all places that were supposed to have "hd0" had "/dev/sda1" instead. I switched to the console, fixed it by hand and then clicked on "retry bootloader configuration", which undid my changes to device.map and failed again. I finally dirty-hacked it by replacing /usr/sbin/grub by an empty script, which allowed me to continue in the installation. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
