Thanks for your quick responses. See e.g. this thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-782904.html
It summarises what I know:
- the freeze happens only with X running, even without compiz (plain kde3
session).
- Any USB device prevents the freeze, even a simple memory stick.
- I don't know whether it is only X killing the input devices, as the computer
is not in a network (no ssh-ing). I can't switch terminals or kill X, no input
is accepted. I don't have a null modem, sorry.
- Yes it is a C400.
- I will try acpi=off, will see.
- opensuse 11.1 does not contain the i810 driver anymore (at least on the live
CD), that is why I chose 11.0. This beast cannot read DVD's (yes, it IS old,
but all my gf has)
- in the thread mentioned above it is said that ubuntu 8.10 solves this
problem, so it might be fixed in X/kernel/whatever already
- the EnablePipeA option does not fix the issue, but is supposed to fix the
suspend-to-ram problem
- I will try the new kernel, please give me a day for that
And thanks again for your help, I am a happy suser since 8.1, so it is quite
embarassing for me that my gf as a newtimer runs into those problems, and I
can't fix it ;-)
