https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=285055 Summary: changing PCM volume control silences Intel hda (nvidia mcp51) Product: openSUSE 10.3 Version: Alpha 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: openSUSE 10.3 Status: NEW Severity: Normal Priority: P5 - None Component: Sound AssignedTo: tiwai@novell.com ReportedBy: tm.mst@gmx-topmail.de QAContact: qa@suse.de Found By: Beta-Customer Using amarok and changing the volume via Kmix leads to absolute silence of the hda. There is no hardware volume control on the Intel hda, so PCM is used for volume settings. Unloading and reloading the snd_intel_hda via modprobe enables the sound again. I had this bug also on openSUSE 10.2 with kernel 2.6.18 and ALSA 1.0.13. There was also a very high pitched tone, which was barely audible. Upgrading to the factory kernel 2.6.21rc5 and ALSA 1.014rc solved both issues. Now with 10.3 Alpha5 kernel 2.6.22rc4 both reappeared.
