https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=722988 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=722988#c0 Summary: System unbootable, grub not installed when 'boot from /boot partition' is enabled Classification: openSUSE Product: openSUSE 12.1 Version: Beta 1 Platform: x86-64 OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: Major Priority: P5 - None Component: Installation AssignedTo: bnc-team-screening@forge.provo.novell.com ReportedBy: iceman@fastmail.com.au QAContact: jsrain@suse.com Found By: --- Blocker: --- User-Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 5.1; rv:7.0.1) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/7.0.1 I tried installing 12.1 beta1 to a USB hard disk. After the installation finished it asked me to reboot the machine but I just got a blank screen with a blinking cursor on reboot. I had to boot off a LiveCD and manually install grub to the USB hard disk to get it working with "root (hd2,0)", "setup (hd2)" at the grub command line, where hd2 is my USB hard disk. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Start the installation from the KDE image on a USB stick, installing to a USB hard drive. 2.In the Overview screen of the installer (http://en.opensuse.org/images/b/b1/11.4_LIVE_installer-overview1.png) enable the option "Boot from /boot partiton", disable the option "Boot from MBR" 3.Let it install opensuse. Reboot the machine when prompted Actual Results: Grub is not installed on the disk with /boot on it, grub must be manually installed. Expected Results: Grub is installed on the disk with /boot, just like in 12.1M5, 11.4 and all previous releases. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.novell.com/userprefs.cgi?tab=email ------- You are receiving this mail because: ------- You are on the CC list for the bug.
